"Youth ministry is dangerous. When you and I are trying to follow Jesus, we’re going to get into trouble. Trouble making is what discipleship looks like. Our role is not to create nice, compliant American citizens ready to get a good job and have 2.4 kids. Our job is to introduce young people to the life-ruining Jesus who causes nothing but trouble. Whether you knew Mike Yaconelli or not, his influence in the field of youth ministry is undeniable. Mike’s passion was all about equipping youth workers and he sought to encourage leaders in any form possible. Through speaking, writing, and leadership at Youth Specialties, Mike left a massive footprint on both the field of youth ministry and on individual lives. On the stage and behind the scenes, he captured the hearts of youth workers from around the world. Mike was a man who loved Jesus, loved his family and loved youth workers.

Mike and Tiger McLuen were long-time personal friends who shared the undeniable passion for people working in the trenches of youth ministry. Their long-distance friendship carried on over 25 years as they each were driven in the mission to share the gospel to the next generation and equip adults to become more effective and passionate about their ministry. It is in this spirit that Youth Leadership provides the Mike Yaconelli Scholarship Fund.

We believe money should never be the reason you aren’t educated, equipped and encouraged --so in memory of our friend, this scholarship fund was created to come along side of you in your ministry. It is designed for youth workers like you who take a look at their continuing education budget and think “there’s just no way.”
There’s no five step application process. There’s no interview with denominational theologians. Just fill out the form, tell us a bit about yourself, and begin a journey that will significantly impact your ministry.
